The current Muhlenberg County courthouse is the fourth since the county's inception in 1798. It was built in 1907 and designed by the Louisville architectural firm Kenneth McDonald and William J. Dodd with Bailey and Koerner acting as the contractors. It is truly one of the most beautiful in the state and is a very elaborate example of the classical Beaux-Arts style. The courthouse is a two-story, brick structure fronted by a two-story, Corinthian order portico with an equally spectacular cupola. It underwent major renovations in 1975 and is currently under going a second major renovation. Renovations are expected to be completed by the end of summer in 2010 and it will be completely restored inside and out! It happens to be the second largest clock/tower dome in the state and is the crowning jewel of downtown Greenville.
